Lovely Lavender- Did You Know?

We love lavender! Lavender is a healing plant with many properties and has been cultivated and used as medicine for many centuries. Beyond its magical smell and use in common products such as laundry detergent and soap, we thought you may like to know a little more about this powerful plant!

Latin name: Lavendula angustifolia
Antidote for pain if bitten by the funnel web spider, black widow and snakes of the viper/adder family. Apply topically and get thee to an emergency room.
Lavender works on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system- this is why it is effective to promote a calming sensation, aid against nausea, lower your heart rate and promote sleep.
Medical studies have found that lavender promote wounds healing. The anti-bacterial effects properties have been found to be effective MRSA and VRE infections- very serious ‘super bugs’
Lavender has anti-fungal properties as well! It inhibits growth of various strains of fungi that cause yeast infections, oral thrush and skin breakdown
Acetylcholine is produced in gastric acid excretions and may cause stomach cramping and even ulcers! Lavender has been suggested to help with muscle contractions and excess stomach acid excretion.
For those who love the Sun and unfortunately experience sunburn- lavender is very helpful to sooth the skin, ease the pain and stop the inflammation and resolved the symptoms experienced from sunburns much more quickly when applied frequently within the first 24 hours of Sun exposure.
